Chaim Lubelski verkehrte im Jet Set von St. Tropez, war erfolgreicher Geschäftsmann in New York und ist ein jüdisch-orthodoxer Gelehrter. Mit 63 zieht er nach Antwerpen zu seiner Mutter, einer KZ-Überlebenden, um die er sich hingebungsvoll kümmert. Das Trauma des Holocausts prägt Chaim in jeder Phase seines unangepassten Lebens. Ein Leben voller Absurditäten und Zärtlichkeit, das sich, so wie der Film selbst, jedem Klischee entzieht.


Biography

Elkan Spiller was born in Cologne, Germany, as a child of Holocaust survivors. He graduated in film and communication from the Berlin University of the Arts with a thesis titled Anti-Semitism on German TV. He has worked as a freelance journalist for German television and media in New York, Tel Aviv and San Francisco. He started his current documentary with the short film Mama, L'Chaim!, which has been shown at over 50 film festivals (including Berlinale and Rotterdam) and has received several awards. L'Chaim! is his first feature documentary.
