The films have been selected out of a great variety of film submissions (over 150 DVDs arrived in our office) by our curator Dr. Ulrike Davis-Sulikowski and have been put together to a programme by the organizers.
All documentaries differ thematically, as well as stylistically. The quality of documentary film is represented in its various aspects concerning the everyday life by picturing modernity, the different, the other, migration, injustice, or home.
We were also proud to host the filmmakers of the following films at the ETHNOCINECA 2009, who were also available for questions and discussions after the film presentations: Messages from Paradise #1, Statt Landflucht, Cementerio Central, Aventures Chimiques, RapGalsene - Wordpower from Senegal, Rues de Pékin
For the first time our guests were further invited to become producers themselves: In cooperation with SOHO IN OTTAKRING film making workshops were offered and short documentaries were produced. These results were screened on May 23, 2009 under the headline "Arbeiten oder nicht arbeiten".
Additionally in association with the organisation IPSUM "fair photos" were presented in an exhibition at the KosmosTheater.
