Magna Graecia / Europa Impari is an intimate portrait of our southern Europe in times of economic recession. Calabria carries all the contradictions of the ancient myth and nowadays’ reality. Magna Graecia was the Latin name for the ancient Greek settlements, it used to be the cradle for a modernity to come. Today, this land has more of the characteristics of a frontier between North and South, showing up what has become the European community after two thousand years of construction: a democracy still looking for equilibrium.

Anita Lamanna was born in Calabria. She lived in Catanzaro until she moved to Rome where she studied philosophy (Heiddeger and nostalgia) at the University of Rome La Sapienza. She's been working as production manager for the Italian director Sabina Guzzanti on various kind of works from theater shows to documentaries (Draquila, Italy trembles; Viva Zapatero!; RaiOt). She now lives in Paris and work as producer for WALTER FILMS and IMAGE TEMPS. Magna Graecia / Europa Impari is her first work as a director.

Erwan Kerzanet was born in Paris. He studied art history and graduated with a masters in American documentary photography. He was nominated for Cesar for his contribution work on Holy Motors by Leos Carax in 2012. He teaches sound and cinema at the French cinema school la FEMIS.
