LOVE TO PIECES
Violeta Ramirez | Bali, France 2014 | 7 Min. | OmeU
Camera in hand on the Indonesian island of Bali, V. Ramírez filmed cockfighting performances, keeping the focal point on the symbolic dimension of these confrontations. The ritual is staged in the midst of the local community as bets are settled, then give way to the madness of the game and the spectacle of horror. These Balinese men become one with their animals, whom they cherish before the duel and follow until they die.
Violeta Ramírez was born in Argentina in 1983 and moved to France in 2010. She studied Social Anthropology at the University of Buenos Aires and then at the Ecole des Hautes Etudes en Sciences Sociales in Paris. She then continued at the University of Nanterre in Paris where she obtained a master in Anthropological Cinema. She is now doing a PhD in Visual Anthropology, working on frugal lifestyle and degrowth. She has made two films, The recycler (2014, 38mn) and The New Moderns (2016, 45mn).
