The region of Shenmu is China’s largest coal producing area. Caused by the over-exploitation of the coal resources serious environmental problems appear and complicate the already severe everyday life of the miners. This is aggravated by the heavy physical work, poor working conditions, heavy sicknesses and physical handicaps and the permanent threats of fatal accidents. Luo Yaron is a Blaster in Shenmu. In order to support his family and his children’s education, he’s been working in the mine for over a decade. The film accompanies him and his colleagues in their extraordinary daily hustle and shows their fears, hopes and dreams.
