10th ETHNOCINECA

International Documentary Film Festival Vienna 2016

Tu, 17. – Su, 21. May 2015

We proudly celebrate this year’s anniversary edition and use it as a chance to look back on 10 years of festival history! With its way of gathering the beauty and diversity of documentary film in Vienna, ethnocineca is a unique festival within the Austrian scene. What started as a display of ethnographic films in a student seminar at the Department of Cultural and Social Anthropology at the University of Vienna, has developed over the years into an internationally renowned platform for dialogue and exchange.

With more than 380 submissions from all over the world today, several initiatives to promote the next generation of filmmakers, as well as advanced training programs for documentary filmmakers, plenary discussions and interdisciplinary cooperation with the sciences and the arts, the festival has become a place for everyone who is enthusiastic about the world of documentary film. We understand this dynamic as a great chance for the documentary film scene to question and discuss the diverse ways of human cognition and the ways in which they are represented on film. With an eye on the latest developments, we want to keep listening and watching carefully, thereby contributing to and supporting a lively scene of documentary film practice. We understand and want to preserve cinema as a place for exchange and getting to know each other. Many thanks for all those years of your much-valued interest to all our supporters and our fabulous audience – we are looking forward to the next ten years!
