CUBA AS TIME GOES BY

CUBA AS TIME GOES BY

Eduardo Lamora | Cuba 2008 | 80 Min. | OmeU

A mother, her son in exile during 27 years and a President in power for half a century… A dusty trail leads to my hometown, 800 kms East of Havane City.  I returned after 27 years of absence in exile. The sugar factory has been closed, mangrove swamps are shrinking and my mother is much older.  The camera blends my memories about the injustices of the Cuban society of my childhood, before Revolution, and the despairs of the present society, held hostage of an exhausted ideology and the ailing leaders in power. The film shows the daily life at a Cuban village far from the usual touristic stereotypes and the journalistic clichés. A journey at the heart of the Cuban society made of intimacy, confidences and politics.
