From the port of Salin-de-Giraud, the journey begins upstream along the Rhone to its spring in the Swiss Alps. Up there, people are fighting against glacial melt with protective cloth, while tourists make their way into the glacier. Further down the mountain, a wooden pole marks the glacier’s position in 1874. Today, a hotel is located there.

SLOW RETURN builds a narrative arc between both ends of the Rhone and explores the common heritage of dependence and exploitation that is embedded in the landscape.
