From over 150 film submission from all over the world our curators Mag.Ş Julia Binter (Author of "We Shoot the World - Österreichischer Dokumentarfilm und die Globalisierung") and Mag.Ş Martha Cecilia Dietrich (MASN- Austria) have put together a multifaceted and interesting programme which will be screened on 4 days in the KosmosTheater and Café 7*Stern. Instead of an entry fee we ask our visitors to pay as they wish in order to offer a non-exclusive visual and educational experience independent of the level of income. The 27 selected films differ stilistically as well as thematically. Different perspectives on topics like religion & beliefs, migration, diaspora and war will be screened.
We accompany couragous women from all parts of the world in their quest for justice and happyness, we dive into the world of the gauchos and find us afterwoods in Brasil where we become witnesses of Candomblé rituals.
The main aim of the ETHNOCINECA is to give the audience the possibility to experience different lifes and life worlds, to discover similiarities and to offer a forum for discussion and exchange. Therefore filmmakers will be present on every evening for joint reflections and discussions.
Further our successfull and fruitful cooperation with SOHO IN OTTAKRING will be continued and a project workshop for the production of a short documentary in the 16th district will be held. With the support of experts and professionalists a documentary matching this year's topic of SOHO IN OTTAKRING Kick the Habit / Pfeiff drauf! Racism as a Vent will be produced. The presentation of the results and a discussion with Nina Kusturica (Little Alien), Kenan Kilic and Ulrike Davis-Sulikowski will form the final highlight of the ETHNOCINECA 2010.
As documentary films are only one possible form of representation, a photo exhibition in the KosmosTheater will frame this year's ETHNOCINECA. The photographer Sarah-Maria Kölbl offers us through her portrait series an insight into the everyday life in Vienna.
The Ethnofest in the Arena on Thursday, 20 May with live bands and music from all over the world give a great opportunity to celebrate the end of the Filmfest together.
