NOTES ON DISPLACEMENT

Nadira and her daughter Mona have made it from Damascus to Lesbos. After their arrival, they send worrying videos and voice messages to filmmaker Khaled Jarrar. He decides to meet them and join them on their upcoming journey to Western Europe. On the ferry towards the mainland, a tour de force begins along the so-called Balkan route all the way to Germany.
In NOTES ON DISPLACEMENT, Jarrar uses his camera to share the perspective of a refugee that he experiences first-hand, from the midst of the events. In stirring subjectivity, he conveys the meaning of flight for body and soul. The physical exertions and psychological stress become just as tangible as the solidarity among the refugees.

Notes on Displacement, his second feature length, about a Palestinian refugee’s flight from Syria to Germany, will receive a world premiere at the IDFA Envision Competition in November 2022.
