After her father’s late religious revival experience, Maya Steinberg sets out to the gravesite of Rabbi Shimon bar Jochai in Galilee to immerse herself as a secular Israeli in the world of Orthodox Judaism. She hopes to find answers as to why, many years ago, her father turned to religion and away from her.

Spending several weeks in Galilee and through numerous observations, encounters, and conversations, the filmmaker explores both the place held by women in the Orthodox community and the extent to which her own queerness and gender present obstacles to belonging. The journey leads her to surprising discoveries about both, women in religious communities and herself.
