THERE IS NO OTHER PLACE
Anat Tel | Israel | 75 Min. 2021 | OmeU
ONLINE ON SUNDAY MAY 9TH & MONDAY MAY 10TH
AVAILABLE ONLY IN AUSTRIA
The Church of the Holy Sepulcher in Jerusalem is the highest Christian sanctuary and has always been a bone of contention between the different denominations. Here, power conflicts, traditions, and religiously distant humanity shape the everyday life that 80-year-old Father Samuel conveys to us as he proudly strolls through the corridors of his church. Two Muslim families guard the church’s gate keys and have always been in dispute over who is the true guardian. All the while, the Israeli policeman Jonny tries to preserve the fragile status quo.
THERE IS NO OTHER PLACE raises questions about the secular and sometimes bizarre celebration of religion and takes us to a place that seems to consist of a thousand places.
